I recommend this book as a beach read: it’s cosy, fun, a little spicy, no too big drama, smooth. I finished the adjectives. The story is between Beckett, called Bex, and James Callahan, quarterback of the college’s football team, born to be in the NFL. She can’t get rid of an insisting ex-boyfriend (also in the football team), so out of a desperate move, kiss James in front of him. James, after a traumatic love story, doesn’t want any relationship, any affection, but Bex’ was a hell of a kiss. And obv he could think about nothing, but that kiss… and the writing class he’s about to take and fail again, because he is not able to write. The fact that he is like a football star, son of a football star, doesn’t matter: he has to graduate, and has to pass the writing class, even with the help of a tutor. Guess who is taking that class too? And guess who is damn good at writing? Yeah, Bex is the answer to all of his problems. The two of them make a deal: Bex will help him pass the exam only of he helps her getting rid of that harassing asshole by fake dating. Can you imagine how that will go? I can, and I like it.

This book made me giggling and kicking my feet since immediately, James is such a green flag, all defending her honour even before knowing her at all, and the “he falls first and harder” trope gets me every time. He had a dramatic love story that ended with his transfer into another college and the promise to not to get involved in any relationship until the start of his career as a professional football player.

Bex is a really good character, she has an important burden over her shoulders, she has to change her plans in order to take care of a mother who is not mothering, a diner which her mother was supposed to run, college, a job in a café and a guy who doesn’t understand that no means NO. all of this by always being herself, kind and reliable. I admire her will, she’s strong, but she’s human too, and she needs help. At least with one of the problems she is facing. We can tell that James, too, is the answer at all of her problems, as we’ll see.

James ha bisogno di un aiuto per gli esami, Bex di un finto fidanzato. Non c'è nulla di male in uno scambio equo, no? Quando la giovane promessa del football James Callahan si trasferisce alla McKee University per scappare dalle distrazioni che gli sono quasi costate il futuro, si trova a dover riorganizzare le sue priorità e a studiare... scrittura creativa. E se non supererà l'esame verrà escluso dal corso universitario, cosa che gli costerà anche la carriera sportiva. La predilezione di James per le scorciatoie lo porta a chiede aiuto alla brillante Beckett "Bex" Wood, ex fidanzata di uno dei suoi compagni di squadra. Ma Bex non è la ragazza sprovveduta che James crede e accetta solo se la loro relazione converrà a entrambi: un aiuto per l'esame in cambio di un finto appuntamento per liberarsi una volta per tutte del suo ex. Ma se il fake dating si rivelasse meno fake del dovuto e le cose si facessero più reali di quanto James e Bex avevano preventivato?

Consiglio questo libro come una lettura da spiaggia: è accogliente, divertente, un po 'piccante, senza grandi drammi, scorrevole. Ho finito gli aggettivi. La storia narra di Beckett, chiamata Bex, e James Callahan, quarterback della squadra di football del college, nato per essere nella NFL. Lei non riesce a sbarazzarsi di un ex fidanzato insistente (anche lui nella squadra di football), quindi mossa dalla disperazione, bacia James di fronte a lui. James, appena uscito da una traumatica storia d'amore, non vuole alcuna relazione, alcun affetto, ma Bex è stato un bacio indimenticabile. E ovviamente non riesce a non pensare a quel bacio ... e all’esame di scrittura che sta per fare e non passare di nuovo, perché non è in grado di scrivere. Il fatto che sia come una star del football, figlio di una star del football, non ha importanza: deve laurearsi e deve passare l’esame di scrittura, anche con l'aiuto di un tutor. Indovinate chi altro sta frequentando quella classe? E indovinate chi è dannatamente brava a scrivere? Sì, Bex è la risposta a tutti i suoi problemi. I due finiscono per fare un accordo: Bex lo aiuterà a superare l'esame solo se lui la aiuterà a sbarazzarsi di quello stronzo molestatore fidanzandosi per finta. Riuscite a immaginare come andrà a finire? Io sì, e mi è piaciuto.

Questo libro mi ha fatto ridacchiare e gongolare sin da subito, James è una green flag ambulante, che difende l’onore di Bex prima ancora di conoscerla, e la trope "He falls first and harder" mi prende ogni volta. James ha avuto una drammatica storia d'amore che si è conclusa con il suo trasferimento in un altro college e la promessa di farsi coinvolgere in nessuna relazione fino all'inizio della sua carriera come giocatore di football professionista.

Bex è un gran bel personaggio, e ha un fardello importante sulle spalle: deve cambiare i suoi piani per prendersi cura di una madre che non le fa da madre, una tavola calda che sua madre avrebbe dovuto gestire, il college, un lavoro in un bar e un ragazzo che non capisce che “no” significa NO. Tutto questo riuscendo a essere sempre sé stessa, gentile e affidabile. Ammiro la sua volontà, lei è una forte, ma è anche umana e ha bisogno di aiuto. Almeno per uno dei problemi che sta affrontando. Possiamo dire che anche James è la risposta in tutti i suoi problemi, come vedremo.
