Poppy non avrebbe mai immaginato di innamorarsi del principe Casteel, e men che meno di essere ricambiata con lo stesso trasporto. L’unica cosa che desidera è godersi quella felicità inaspettata, ma il dovere li chiama: devono trovare i rispettivi fratelli prima che sia troppo tardi, e tutto lascia pensare che sarà una missione pericolosa, con conseguenze inimmaginabili.

Poppy non desiderava altro che tornare padrona della propria vita. Di certo non aspirava a controllare quella degli altri, eppure ora deve scegliere se rinunciare al suo diritto di nascita o appropriarsi della corona di ossa dorate e diventare la Regina di Carne e Fuoco. Ma quando vengono alla luce gli oscuri peccati e i sanguinosi segreti del regno, una potenza a lungo dimenticata riemerge, più minacciosa che mai, ed è disposta a tutto per impedire che Poppy porti quella corona. 

Il pericolo più grande per Atlantia, però, si annida a occidente: la Regina di Sangue e Cenere trama da secoli per realizzare i suoi progetti, e per impedirlo Cas e Poppy dovranno addentrarsi nelle Terre degli dei e risvegliarne il re. Dovranno affrontare segreti terribili, tradimenti devastanti e nemici determinati a distruggere tutto ciò per cui loro hanno lottato, ma soprattutto dovranno decidere fino a che punto sono disposti a spingersi per il loro popolo... e l’uno per l’altra. E adesso diventerà regina...

Oh. Mio. Dio. Non pensavo sarei salita su una montagna russa quando ho cominciato a leggere il terzo capitolo della serie Blood and Ash. La Corona di Ossa mi ha devastata. Rivoltata come un calzino, e non lo intendo con malizia… più o meno. Ovviamente le scene spicy esistono, sono anche abbastanza intense, ma non è questo il punto. Il punto è che ho pianto dall’inizio alla fine, quasi senza interruzioni. Avete presente come finisce il secondo volume? Ecco questo libro parte esattamente da li, e capitola quasi subito. All’improvviso va tutto più male, e tu stai pure peggio. No spoiler, stiamo parlando delle prime pagine del primo capitolo. Capite? Un inizio del genere come si supera? Ma si supera, fidatevi. Il problema subentra quando ci si comincia ad abituare alla felicità e serenità della coppia, per quanta serenità possa esserci quando lo scopo finale è quello di negoziare la liberazione di un atlantiano, erede al trono di Atlantia, con un popolo di freddi assassini succhia sangue.

E poi BADABOOM!!

Sto scrivendo questa recensione a caldo quindi forse sono un pelo troppo elettrizzata da ciò che avviene. Un turbine di emozioni contrastanti, zia J anche questa volta riesce a farci sghignazzare, sospirare, piangere e urlare disperate. Posso affermare al 98% che “La Corona di Ossa” sia, finora, il mio libro preferito di tutta la saga, forse anche di tutta la bibliografia dell’autrice. Adesso che ho finito con lo sclero emotivo, possiamo analizzare i vari aspetti che rendono tanto spettacolare questo libro.

Succedono una varietà enorme di cose, mi ricollego al motivo per cui questo libro è stato tanto amato, quanto odiato dai lettori. Sono molte informazioni da assimilare in tre libri (semicit. per i fan di f.r.i.e.n.d.s), ma i personaggi e Atlantia ne valgono la pena. Sin dai primi capitoli si fa strada maggiormente la questione magico – politico, affiancando così la parte romance che nei primi due volumi è stata decisamente preponderante. Troviamo leggermente meno offuscata la grande incognita del potere di Poppy, anche se ho la sensazione che ci sia ancora qualcosa che ci sfugge. Finalmente abbiamo la possibilità di vedere qualcosa di più delle usanze e delle leggi atlantiane, conosceremo i genitori di Cas, faremo un bel salto indietro nel tempo perché, come sempre, le ragioni del presente vanno ricercate nel passato.

Poppy attraversa un percorso di crescita costante che va avanti sin da “Sangue e Cenere”, per questo è davvero uno dei migliori personaggi di cui abbia mai letto. È completa a 360°. E giunti al terzo libro, che dovrebbe essere circa la metà della serie, nel corso degli eventi lei è ancora completamente ignara di ciò che le succede sotto il naso. Rido ancora. È esattamente come il lettore. Non esiste storia in cui il sentimento della protagonista e quello del lettore siano più in sintonia di questa.

No, non mi sono dimenticata di Casteel, del nostro principe oscuro. È sempre lui, ma cresce insieme a Poppy, imparano a stare insieme passo dopo passo. È sempre inappropriato, irriverente e meravigliosamente affascinante. Stavolta però non mi soffermerò solo su di lui come uomo di spicco. Svariati personaggi secondari hanno preso piede nella vicenda, e mi danno davvero un sacco di good vibes. Alcuni credo che saranno fondamentali ai fini di trama. Mi riferisco chiaramente a Kieran, il Wolven prima migliore amico di Cas, e ora, direi anche di Poppy. Una delle persone di cui i due protagonisti principali si fidano, con il suo umorismo asciutto e gli occhi color inverno, Kieran sta velocemente conquistando pezzetti del mio cuore, quelli che si lasciano indietro Poppy e Casteel.

Ciò che resta, poi, sicuramente se lo aggiudica Delano, il Wolven che abbiamo visto di guardia di Poppy nel primo volume, quando era ancora “prigioniera” dell’Oscuro, ora lo vediamo affianco a lei, come protettore. Il legame che si instaura tra Poppy e i Wolven ha del magico, ancora mi scappano le lacrime al pensiero.

“Lo avevo mai ringraziato per aver guardato al di là del velo? O per non avermi mai costretta a farmi da parte? Gli avevo mai detto quanto mi avesse cambiato la vita, quanto questo significasse per me, perfino quando ero convinta di odiarlo… perfino quando volevo odiarlo”

“Ho… ho provato a divorare Kieran.”

“Non te ne vorrà.”

“Ho provato a divorare Kieran mentre ero nuda.”

“Probabilmente è per questo che non te ne vorrà.”

“Senza preavviso, nella mia mente balenò un’immagine. La donna con i capelli argentei con le mani chiuse a pugno di fronte a qualcun altro, mentre le stelle cadevano dal cielo.”

Non penso di avere molto altro da dire… o meglio, non posso dire altro senza spoilerarvi l’intero libro, ed è un peccato di cui non mi macchierò. Vi auguro di leggerlo e di godervelo tanto quando ho fatto io. Una rivelazione. Buona lettura!

Oh. My. God. I’d never thought to feel like being in a rollercoaster when I started reading the third book of the Blood and Ash series. The Crown of Gilded Bones devastated me. Very hot spicy scenes apart, this book made me cry a fucking river from start to finish, almost with no interruption. Do you remember how was the end of the previous book? Yup, this one start exactly from where the former ended, and things go mad almost immediately. Suddenly everything falls apart and you reader… you go crazy. No spoiler, I am talking about the first 20 pages of the book. Can you understand? How can you move over, you may ask? You can, trust me. And then, you get used to the happiness of this beautiful couple, if you can define “happiness” the period of time between the wedding, and the negotiation with that cold bloodsucking people.

And then BADABOOM!!

Okay, I’m writing this review just after I finished the book, which have finished me, so I could be a little too thrilled. I am sorry. Aunt J made us giggle, sigh and cry hard in desperation this time too. I can confirm that, so far, this is my favourite book of the series. Maybe, of the author too. Now that I’m done with my freak-out, we can move over with the analysis of the plot of this spectacular book.

So many things happen here, I’d remind the moment when I said that this series is not easy-going, it is not everybody’s cup of tea. That’s a lot of information to get in three books (fans of f.r.i.e.n.d.s, assemble), but characters and Atlantia worth it. Since the first chapters we can see more about the magic and politics sides of the story, which are now next to the romance, that was central before. We have a less blurred Poppy’s powers – question, even if I have a gut that there’s something more to find. Here we’ll have the chance to know something more about the use and the laws that rule Atlantia, we’ll get to meet Casteel’s parents, Queen Eloana and King Valyn, and we’ll step back in time, because, you know, the reason of the present reside in the past. Poppy walk through a path of constant growing that begin in Blood and Ash and this is the reason why she I the best character I’ve ever read about. That, and the fact that in this third book, about a half of the series, yet she has no idea of what is going in in her life. LOL. She is exactly at the same point of the reader. I have never heard of another story where the emotions of the main character and the emotions of the reader are so tuned. This is amazing.

No, I did not forget about our man, our Dark One, prince Casteel. He is the same, but grown up. He is learning, with his wife, to stay together step by step. However, he is inappropriate, irreverent and wonderfully charming, as always. But Casteel is not the only man I wanted to talk about. This time there are many other side characters that become paramount to the plot. I am clearly referring to Kieran, one of the most trusted persons for our main characters, with his dry humour and his wintery eyes. He is quickly conquering pieces of my heart… the ones left back by Poppy and Cas. The rest of my heart will go to Delano, the Wolven that was first a guard of Poppy, when she was Casteel’s “inmate”, and a protector of her, now. The Bond between Poppy and the Wolvens is so magical, I could cry at the thought.

“Did I ever thank him for seeing past the veil? Or for never once forcing me to stand down? Did I tell him how much he’d changed my life, how much that meant to me, even when I thought I hated him—even when I wanted to hate him?”

“I...I tried to eat Kieran.”

“He won’t hold it against you.”

“I tried to eat Kieran while I was naked.”

“That’s probably why he won’t hold it against you.”

“Without warning, an image flashed in my mind. The silver-haired woman standing before another as the stars fell from the sky, her hands balled into fists.”

I don’t think to have much more to say… well, I cannot say much more without spoiler the entire book. And this is a blame I will not take credit for. I wish you guys to read and enjoy this masterpiece as much as I did. Have fun!
